Irish tax credits you might be missing

Tax credits reduce your Income Tax bill directly. Many are not applied automatically — you have to add them in MyAccount. Here are the most commonly missed in 2026.

    Rent Tax Credit

Worth €1,000 (single) or €2,000 (jointly assessed) per year for 2024–2028. If you pay rent on your principal residence to a private landlord, you can claim. Backdate up to four years.

    Flat-rate expenses

Occupation-specific deductions: nurses €733, teachers €518, shop assistants €121, and many more. These reduce taxable income, saving tax at your marginal rate.

    Remote working relief

If you work from home, claim 30% of your electricity, heating and broadband bills apportioned for the days you worked from home. CentSmart applies the simpler flat-rate WFH credit (€3.20/day) automatically.

    Small Benefit Exemption

Your employer can give up to €1,000 in non-cash vouchers per year, fully exempt from IT, USC and PRSI. Common at Christmas. Toggle it on in the calculator to see the boost to net pay.

    Medical expenses

Tax relief at 20% on unreimbursed medical expenses (GP, consultant, prescription) and at 40% on qualifying nursing home fees. Claim via MyAccount.
